ACTIVITIES

Whale Watching
Hermanus is the most renowned town when it comes to whale watching in South Africa. The Hermanus Whale Festival takes place every September, coinciding with the Southern Right whale's breeding season. There are several whale watching tour operators, which allow you to experience these magnificent creatures by boat - bringing you even closer to the action.

Winelands
Experiencing the majestic mountains, valleys and beautiful scenery are all part of going to the Winelands. The Hemel-en-Arde wine valley is only 15 mins drive and the Cape Winelands of Franschhoek, Paarl and Stellenbosch are about one and a half to two hours drive from Hermanus.

Nature Walks
Hermanus offers a variety of hiking trails and walking paths. The Cliff Path that stretches from the New Harbour in Westcliff all along the coastline to Grotto beach is 10-12km long and has made Hermanus famous for its land-based Whale watching potential.

Beaches
Described by some as the greatest Hermanus attractions there are a number of choices for beaches, from rock-protected coves to long expanses of sandy beach, perfect for safe swimming and strolling. Tidal pools provide safe bathing and are perfect for children.

Shark Cage Diving
30 minutes drive from Hemanus lies Gaansbaai, the best location for shark cage diving in South Africa. Shark Alley is particularly renowned for shark cage diving as well as surface viewing.

Township Tours
These Township Tours provide a fascinating way to get to know more about the living conditions of local township inhabitants in Zwelihle. This cultural tour, besides presenting an opportunity for an insight into township life, allows tourists to experience ubuntu, the traditional African hospitality.
