Only an hours drive from Johannesburg and nestled on the banks of the Vaal River near Parys, Carryblaire River Retreat embodies peace, tranquillity and a sense of oneness with nature. With its own natural island and being a registered bird sanctuary the views offered at Carryblaire are breathtaking and some of the most beautiful. The Yellowfish that leap through the water are considered to rival Trout in their ability to entice fishermen in a challenge of wits, while the calls of the nesting Fish Eagles remind us of their superiority in the air. ACCOMMODATIONCarryblaire has 7 double rooms and one family suite and can sleep 18 people on a sharing basis. All the bedrooms are decoratively inspired by elements from African nature. They have thatched roofs and mosquito nets and are scattered with antique pieces collected from Parys. All rooms have tea and coffee making facilities and are fitted with fans and for the winter months with electric heaters and electric blankets. Rooms can be made up as either King-size or two single beds and have full en-suite bathrooms. Please Note: We regret children under the age of 12 will not be accommodated. DININGCatering is included in our rates with options of dinner and breakfast or just breakfast included. Meals consist of healthy and wholesome farm style cooking, served in the dining room at the main lodge with stunning views overlooking the river. CONFERENCESWe also cater for small conference groups in an environment that gives them the space and energy to think outside of the proverbial box. Our conference room is fully equipped with modern equipment - TV, video / DVD, data projector and pull down screen, white board and flip charts. Catering is fully provided, which gives teams the freedom to devote themselves entirely to the job at hand. FISHINGThe waters in front of Carryblaire River Retreat offer some of the most challenging fishing as experienced by many who have visited Carryblaire in the past. Yellowfish abound and test fly fishing skills as they prove to be true adversaries. BIRD SANCTUARYCarryblaire River Retreat is also a bird sanctuary, and boasts approximately 450 species of birds in the area. Goliath herons, paradise fly catchers, spotted eagle owls, cardinal woodpeckers, black breasted prinias and fish eagles are amongst the more esteemed visitors, while white eyes, sunbirds, black collared barbets, bishop birds and crested barbets frolic in the glades on a daily basis.
