Calvinia Retreat comprises of African Dawn B&B and Coffee Shop. African Dawn B&B is a tranquil retreat, a place to relax and unwind in the heart of the Karoo. We offer quality, spacious and private accommodation to leisure and corporate travellers.
Calvinia is situated in the Northern Cape about halfway between Cape Town and Upington. The town is at the foot of the Hantam Mountains. Hantam being a Khoi word meaning "where the red bulbs grow".
At our Coffee Shop, enjoy a cappuccino and a slice of homemade cheese cake or indulge in something from our comprehensive menu.
You can expect luxury and comfort in one of our spacious and private rooms. Each bed has soft white percale linen, ensuring a cosy and relaxing nights sleep. Choose from a selection of en suite rooms with either a double and single bed, a double and two single beds or two single beds.

Akkerendam Nature Reserve:
With 65 species of birds to see and a number of hiking trails, this is a fabulous place to spend the day.
Feast your eyes on the spectacular spring flowers from mid July to September.
Built in 1920 and housed in the art deco Old Synagogue, this extraordinary building is home to a number of interesting artifacts.
Dutch Reformed Church:
The neo-gothic style church was built in 1847, designed by Potchefstroom architect Gaysford at the cost of £1,200.
Built by field cornet A van Wyk in 1854, this is a must see attraction.
Hantam Meat Festival:
During the last week of August you can join us for the annual meat festival.
