Secunda, a mining town in the South African province of Mpumalanga, is affectionately dubbed Cosmos Country, as its landscapes are laden with brightly coloured cosmos flowers that are delicate but hardy. However, this area is also a hive of activity, thanks to the Lake Umuzi Waterfront, and all that it has to offer locals and visitors from around the world.

Lake Umuzi is, simultaneously, ideal for entertainment for the whole family and for corporate events and celebrations. It has plenty to see and do, with variety and choice to boot. By combining activities for the kids, restaurants, plush venues and popular annual events, Lake Umuzi Waterfront ensures that it has just the thing for everyone.

Every year, the Cosmos 3-in-1 MTB and Cosmos 3-in-1 Marathon are held here. These test the skills of athletes and provide an opportunity for those who simply run and cycle for the love of it to challenge themselves within a really fun environment. The 3-in-1 Marathon (which, basically, comprises three race distances incorporated into one race, so that all the runners finish together, despite starting at different times) was first held in 1992, and continues to be a really popular event for runners of all abilities.

The Aquazone Waterpark
Slides, tubes and swimming pools are the order of the day at this fun park, where everyone feels their youthful adventure coming out. Out of season, the park is only open on weekends, while it is open every day during the season. There are barbecue facilities available here, which means that families really can settle down and make a day of it.

Rocky Waters
This miniature golf course has 18 holes and a practice green that invites groups and individuals to have a laugh while perfecting their teeing skills.

Entertainment World
Aptly named, this offers a range of exciting activities for all ages. These include bowling (eight lanes), pool tables, indoor cricket and soccer, and an indoor netball court. Snacks and take-aways are available and those over the age of 18 years can enjoy refreshments from the bar.

Carnival Square
This is a secure area in which youngsters can play within eyeshot of the restaurants surrounding it, giving parents a welcome spot in which to sit and enjoy refreshments.

In addition to all of the fun here, there are also a number of dining options for the peckish or the very hungry. Ocean Basket, Boesies, O’Houlighans (an Irish pub and grill) and Eish! (a South African restaurant with plenty of personality) are all excellent choices, showcasing the variety for which this country is so well known.

Lake Umuzi Waterfront is a popular venue for events and celebrations, and it is no wonder when one considers the gorgeous backdrops and convenient amenities. There are a number of venues that can be used for conferences, meetings, product launches and exhibitions. These include Boesies (which can seat up to 120 in banquet style and 350 in cinema style), Mokoro (accommodating 180 people in banquet style), and the Basement Theatre (which can fit 250 delegates in cinema style and 160 in banquet style, and is equipped with fantastic sound and lighting equipment).
