DESCRIPTION:

The Stillbay River Lodge is a charming, thatched Bed & Breakfast hotel in Cape Dutch style with a unique location for an unforgettable vacation at the South African Whale Coast. The Lodge is situated on a huge nature property reaching right to the shore of the deep blue Goukou River.

The wonderful sweeping Lappiesbaai beach begins only 1,5 km down the river. And just crossing the bridge there is tranquil Stillbay, one of the most attractive tourist resorts on the famous South African Whale Coast between Cape Town and and Mosselbay.

ACCOMMODATION

The Stillbay River Lodge is is one of the oldest buildings in Stillbay dating back to the late 19th century. For a long time it used to be the De Brak farmhouse. After the homestead was carefully restored, modernised and extended it was reopened as a bed & breakfast guesthouse, depicting a bygone era.

Stillbay River Lodge offers a range of delightfully decorated rooms with quality beds and bath or shower en-suite. It also features one romantic honeymoon suite with private patio. All rooms and especially our wide veranda boast spectacular views of the river and the green hills of the surrounding coastal countryside.

CUISINE

A delicious, rich country breakfast buffet and best quality local specialities are served in our elegant "Milkwood" Restaurant with its high ceiling, original Oregon pine beams and sash windows. Start the day with a solid breakfast including hot tea or coffee, a variety of fruits and juices, crunchy muesli, refreshing yoghurts and fried or scrambled eggs with bacon.

For dinner there are numerous restaurants nearby such as the "Stables", "On The Rocks" or the Lappiesbaai Restaurant directly on the beach front. And in case you would like to have a true South African Braai (barbecue), please ask us and we will be happy to arrange everything for you.

BAR - The "Irish Pub":

During the evening you can bring your own wine or other drinks and meet at the bar of our "Irish Pub", have a chat with other guests or just get comfortable in wide Chesterfield chairs and let the day go by as you watch the glorious sunsets.

WHALE WATCHING

Still Bay is famous par excellence for the large number of whales, and in particular the southern right whale, which comes into this tranquil bay for a brief nursery visit between June and October. Visitors may delight themselves in the frolics of these large mammals from various look-out points. Suitable whale-watching sites are situated, amongst others, above the Still Bay harbour in the parking area, on the harbour itself, at Morris Point, at Lappiesbaai (the main beach area) and opposite the estuary.

GOLF

Golfing fans already know about the well-kept golf courses in South Africa and especially along the Garden Route. The Stillbay Golf Course provides superb play for amateurs and professionals alike on a 9-hole course, which is being extended to a 18-hole course. There are not many golf courses that offer such fantastic views of the blue Indian Ocean while playing.
