DESCRIPTION:
Located in the beautiful Little Karoo, conveniently close to both the Garden Route and Route 62, we offer a unique base from which to enjoy and explore the beauty of this region. For the sophisticated, young at heart we offer an African experience with comfort, tranquillity and style, furnished with hand-picked African artefacts, textiles and art.
Our relaxing Bed and Breakfast is built on the adjoining property for ultimate privacy. It is situated in a typical Klein Karoo indigenous garden, complementing the African architecture. A sense of fun and humour is clearly visible when approaching Shades of Africa. A painting by famous local artist, Boet van der Hoven, takes you into a joyous Litlle Karoo scene with tongue in the cheek humour. A big tapestry of a Zulu kraal by the famous Rorkes Drift Weavers covers the one wall in the dining room area and has been a very big conversation piece amongst art lovers.
Experience our wide open spaces, our wealth of beauty consisting of clear skies, mountain passes, sunny hot days and wind still evenings filled with bright stars. A nature lover’s paradise! Breath our un-polluted fresh air, soak up the sun (wear sun block!), relax at the swimming pool and enjoy walks, golfing, mountain biking, hiking, caving , bird watching or sight seeing, whatever you wish…. It’s a world full of surprises, silence, shadows, shades, stories and colours.
Accommodation
We offer 4 double or twin bedded en-suite rooms with shower, each with private entrance onto a patio over-looking the swimming pool. Each room is decorated in a different Karoo-chic style with original paintings by well-known South African artists. Attention to detail is very important in the ambience of Shades and changes on a regular basis.
All our rooms are equipped with a television with DSTV, Wireless Internet, overhead fans, comfortable furnishings, air conditioners, heaters and hot water bottles, hairdryers and tea and coffee-making facilities.
