ATTRACTIONS & ACTIVITIES:

Mossel Bay is the first place at which Bartolomeus Dias landed after rounding the Cape in 1488. One of the port’s historic attractions is the famous “Post Office Tree”, so called because in 1500 a sailor left a message in a navigator’s boat in a milkwood tree. Today you can still post a letter at this spot.

The Bartolomeus Diaz Museum Complex consists of historic buildings with exhibits of shells, local and maritime history, dominated by an impressive life-size replica of Bartolomeus Dias caravel. From the Point there are spectacular views of waves crashing against the rocky shoreline and dolphins and during August to November Mossel Bay is the best place for whale watching.

The St. Blaize Lighthouse has been a beacon for navigators since 1864 and is one of only two manned lighthouses on the South African Coast today. Mossel Bay’s excellent climate wind protected, safe beaches and good surfing make it a very popular holiday resort. In addition you can play golf on a course where “you can see the sea from every tee”, tennis, bowls, squash, go deep-sea fishing, shark caging, (famous for white Sharks) or take a pleasure trip to Seal island.

There are a number of restaurants offering the specialities of our seaside town, as well as the Pinnacle Point Golf Estate and Casino and the well-known Admirals restaurant for a 102-dish buffet. Naturally Mossel Bay as part of the Garden route is the ideal base from which to explore the surrounding areas such as Oudtshoorn for their Ostrich farms and famous Cango Caves. If you take a tour along the Garden Route, don’t miss out on Mossel Bay.

GOLF:

Mossel Bay is at the heart of the Garden Route Golf region that has developed into one of the post popular golfing destinations in the world. Including golf courses such as Fancourt, Pinnacle Point, Oubaai, George, Pezula, Mossel Bay and many more. Currently Berg and Bay Lodge have an agreement with the Mossel Bay Golf Course to provide couples with a reduced green fee rate available for Berg and Bay Guests exclusively.
