Graceland Golf Course, Secunda
Graceland Golf Course, Secunda, Mpumalanga / The Graceland Country Club in Secunda, Mpumalanga, rests only an hour and a half drive away from Johannesburg. The flat savannahs of Mpumalanga do not at first glance suggest that they are suitable for the building of a golf course, but as one of the world's leading designers, Gary Player made creative use of what natural features were available and the results are a highly challenging 18-hole championship course.
The front and back nines of Graceland Country Club follow paths along opposite sides of natural donga's. The course features a mixture of significant elevation changes, water hazards, rolling fairways, and strategically placed bunkering. The golf course is a typical links course with undulating greens and relatively steep, grass-faced bunkers. Two streams twine through seven of the holes and several dams attract a variety of birdlife. The course is a 6 400 metres long, par 72 (SAGU rating 70). The signature hole is the par 3 15th, where a stream runs along the right-hand edge of the green and two deep bunkers lie in wait to the back and left of it. Crenshaw Bent grass and Kikuyu provide ideal playing surfaces.
Features of the club house
The Augusta Club Lounge with views of the entire course and the Palm Terrace, beside the swimming pool, serve as a halfway house. A Pro Shop, a driving range and a pitch and putt course is also offered.
