Yellow Arum Lily Festival Roossenekal
When: Friday, 27 November 2009 to Sunday, 29 November 2009
Where: Roossenekal
Categories: Annual Festivals / Fauna & Flora
The village of Roossenekal is unknown to most South Africans. However, this is the natural habitat of the much sought after Yellow Arum Lily (Zantedeschia pentlandia) - celebrated by this festival for it's magnificent springtime display.
This indigeous, endemic (only found in Roossenekal) species is yellow with a black-purple inside bottom. This Yellow Arum Lily is a protected species, from the endangered Red Data list. Nobody is allowed to pick these beautiful flowers or dig them up in the veld.
At the Festival you will be able to purchase the Yellow Arum Lily from registered propogaters who propagate them from seeds or from the small bulbs forming naturally from the big bulbs.
