The Herald Cycle Tour in Addo

The 2009 Herald VW Mountain Bike Event starts and finishes at the Addo Elephant National Park and has three route options. This year's event has a brand new 85km Feature Race taking riders through some extremely technical terrain in the Addo Elephant National Park. With plenty of steep climbs, extreme descents and stunning single track to keep you on your toes, this is definitely going to challenge riders in both stamina and technical ability.

The challenging 65km route explores the beauty of the Zuurberg Pass, climbing over this historic 1860’s hand-built road, before descending into the picturesque valleys below. After winding through the undulating bushveld, the route then joins up with the shorter 42km Family Fun Ride loop.

This 42km route meanders through scenic citrus orchards and along the edges of the invitingly cool waters of canals. Then riders get the opportunity to virtually rub shoulders with the mighty Addo Elephants as they hug the game fence-line of the Addo Elephant Park en route back to the finish at the Rest Camp. If this ride doesn’t take your breath away, the awesome scenery and wildlife definitely will! This is one ride you don’t want to miss!

Being very hot around this time of year, a high factor sunblock is recommended and riders are advised to make use of the numerous watering points along the route to quench their thirst.
