DESCRIPTION:

Rosstrevor is a late Victorian farmhouse, beautifully restored and just 25 kilometers from Barkly East. Nestled in the foothills of the Witteberg, the southern extension of the Drakensberg and 30 kilometers from Tiffendell Ski Resort.

Find peace and tranquility by strolling along the banks of our crystal streams, or do bird watching or visit our rock art sites. Hiking in the high mountains or forsaking in the river gravels for crystal agars will keep you entertained for hours. We pride ourselves in providing the finest fly-fishing for Wild Rainbow Trout or Orange River yellow fish.

The crystal clear river flows for 18 kilometers around deeply incised meanders and past sandstone cliffs. In season you may like to hunt grey wing francolin, guinifowl or mountain rehbok. The old barn, a beautiful stone building dating back to 1878, once was a dairy, has been renovated into the most beautiful venue for your dream wedding and functions. The Old Dairy restaurant is also open occasionally.

We offer value for money in this tastefully decorated farmhouse and a laid back holiday with healthy activities. It is a must!

Accommodation


The hundred-year old farmhouse has been painstakingly restored and furnished in late Victorian style. The house can accommodate 10-12 people comfortably.

For entertainment indoors there is a cozy bar, built from wood grown on the farm, in a TV lounge. There is an unusual indoor braai to keep you cozy on a chilly winters evening. The kitchen with its agastove is fully equipped and all crockery, cutlery and glassware are provided for self-catering. In the dining room you can enjoy your meals around an old style dining table with an essistove to give it a warm and home full atmosphere.

The house is fully equipped with electric blankets open fireplace and heaters in the winter. We have a separate Rondavel sleeping 3 people with its own bathroom.

Weddings and Functions


The Old Barn, a beautiful sandstone building dating back to 1878, is the perfect venue for your dream wedding or functions. If you would like to do team building events, we can offer you various activities in the nature and inspires creativity. The Old Dairy restaurant is perfect for smaller functions, there is space for +- 50 people and have bar facilities.

In the sandstone barn is space for up to 150 people and provides the most beautiful atmosphere for a stylish farm-style wedding. We do have a chapel on site with an unforgettable mountain view. Wedding packages include: Venue, Catering, Function hire of tables, chairs and place settings, decorating and accommodation.

Activities


We offer you the finest fly-fishing for wild trout. The crystal clear river has many trophy size rainbow trout and yellow fish, and flows for 18 kilometers around deeply incised meanders and past sandstone cliffs.

The vanished Bushmen have left many signs of their passing, in caves and under overhangs are many paintings including the unique twelve meter “dragon” supposed to be painted while in a dragon like trance.

Hiking or riding horse across the extensive property will reveal many species of birds for bird watching and perhaps a mountain rehbok or a baboon. You can go for a nature walk along the beautiful river and cool you of with a refreshing swim in the crystal clear water, or even take your lunch with and enjoy a peaceful picnic on the bank of the river under a willow tree.

In season you may like to hunt grey wing francolin, guinifowl or rehbok. If you like the extreme and adventure with your 4x4 vehicle we can take you on an unforgettable 4x4 drive on our own property or in the surrounding area.

Local Attractions


You can experience the locals by joining them for a game of golf on the local golf course in Barkly East (+- 25km), or a pub lunch or dinner in different restaurants or clubhouse in town. In the winter season you can go for a day trip to Tiffendell Ski Resort (+- 30km) and enjoy a day on the ski’s or snowboard in natural snow.

If you would like a game of tennis or squash you can go to the Wartrail tennis club (+- 10km) and go for refreshment at the clubhouse. Otherwise you can do bird watching, 4x4 routes or fly-fishing at various places in the surrounding area.

DIRECTIONS:

From BARKLY EAST
Take the R58 towards Aliwal North. Turn right after three kilometers (signed New England and Tiffendell). Follow this road for approximately nine kilometers; you will cross the Kraai River at Loch Bridge (national monument). You will have the most beautiful view and observe the Reverse Railway, while traveling out this cutting. Turn right at the T-junction (signed Wartrail / Tiffendell) and follow this road for 11 kilometers. Rosstrevor is on the left hand side; look out for our sign and the sandstone barn.

From ALIWAL NORTH
Take the R58 towards Lady Grey / Barkly East. After you have passed Lady Grey you will travel for approximately 40 kilometers, then turn left (signed New England and Wartrail). Follow this road for six kilometers then turn right (signed Wartrail and Tiffendell). After nine kilometers turn left at the fork, then follow this road for 11 kilometers. Rosstrevor is on the left hand side; look out for our sign and the sandstone barn.
