Hitgeheim Country Lodge is an exclusive owner managed lodge situated in the malaria-free Sundays River Valley, only minutes from the world renowned Addo Elephant National Park. The quietness, stylishly appointed chalets with extra-length beds draped in romantic mosquito nets with crisp white percale linen, luxurious bathrooms with outdoor showers and private wooden decks with breathtaking views invites you to relax and unwind completely.
Explore the natural surroundings of this eco-reserve on foot, experience the citrus and ostrich farm and the excitement of feeding African Buffalo or relax in the tranquil environment teeming with birdlife, a birder’s paradise. Fine dining by candlelight with award-winning wines from the walk-in wine cellar will ensure that dining is an unforgettable experience. Here you will experience true South African hospitality.
Accommodation:
8 luxury and individually decorated thatched chalets with private wooden decks with sweeping views of the Valley and the Sundays River below offer air-conditioning, heating, coffee and tea facilities, well-stocked mini-bar, snack basket and electronic safe. Other features include electric blankets, hairdryer, bathrobes and bathroom amenities.
Cuisine:
Hitgeheim Country Lodge has established a reputation for outstanding cuisine. All meals are lovingly planned and prepared by our resident chef. Special dietary requirements can be catered for by prior arrangement only - Vegetarian meals available on request.
Breakfast is served on the veranda or in the dining room and includes seasonal fresh fruits, stewed dried fruit, muesli and cereals, muffins, preserves and fresh fruit juices followed by a traditional cooked breakfast. A 6-course set menu is presented every evening and served in luxurious splendour. Light lunch is available on request and served in the shade of one of the many verandas.

Safaris & Activities:
Our open-top safari vehicle departs daily to Addo Elephant National Park daily. Accompany our guide for a personal game experience where you will be treated to a picnic style in the morning or opt for the afternoon drive with snacks and drinks while observing the behaviour of the unique Addo Elephants.
Arrange an exhilarating Elephant Back Safari, a visit to the Cheetah Breeding Sanctuary, Schotia Private Game Reserve or a full day safari at the close-by Pumba Private Game Reserve. Take a guided farm tour where you will be introduced to the African Buffalo breeding project and the ostrich and citrus farming activities. Or simply stroll through the natural surroundings and experience the indigenous antelope species at close range.
Location
Hitgeheim Country Lodge is situated close to the Addo Elephant National Park in the Eastern Cape, South Africa and is approximately 60km from Port Elizabeth. It is the perfect country retreat as it is less than one hour’s drive from Port Elizabeth. There is a landing strip and helicopter-pad situated on the property. |

DIRECTIONS:
Recommended route from Port Elizabeth
Take the N2 towards Grahamstown. About 10km outside Port Elizabeth you will cross the Swartkops River, drive past BLUEWATER BAY and take first EXIT to the left, MOTHERWELL/MARKMAN/ST GEORGE’S. Turn left onto the R335 and follow road to ADDO for approximately 45km. After you crossed the railway line turn left onto R336 towards KIRKWOOD. Continue along R336 for 9km, turn left at HITGEHEIM Country Lodge signboard, travel for 2km, turn left at main entrance onto eco-reserve and follow signage to the Lodge. Please look out for animals, this is a 20km/h zone!
Recommended route from Graaff-Reinet
Take the R75 to Port Elizabeth. Turn left onto R335 to Kirkwood/Addo Elephant National Park. Turn right at 4-way stop in Main Street, Kirkwood. After 17km pass through Summerville (pack house on left hand side). +3km further turn right at HITGEHEIM Country Lodge signboard (towards Nooitgedacht), travel for 2km, turn left at main entrance onto eco-reserve and follow signage to the Lodge. Please look out for animals, this is a 20km/h zone!
