About Waterwoods

Waterwoods is set on a lush and beautiful farm on 75ha in the historic Fort Nottingham area of the Natal Midlands. The breathtaking beauty of the countryside amidst farmlands is a favourite tourist destination and provides for both nature lovers and shoppers who enjoy the many farm stalls and home industries in the area.

Bird life on the property is abundant including fish eagles and crowned cranes. The property is surrounded by huge trees and offers beautiful walks along the river, dam and forested hill from where one can enjoy splendid views of the area.

Self Catering Accommodation

Our seven self catering cottages are new, fully equipped, luxuriously furnished and have braai facilities. In addition, there is a rustic log cabin available that sleeps eight. The cottages are either twin or double and two of them include a sleeper couch for small children. A cot is also available on request. Most units have fireplaces and all have electric blankets on the beds. Firewood is available on the property.

Secure parking is provided and there is 24 hour security on the property. Children are welcome. The cottages are graded as Highly Recommended by the AA.

Activities and Attractions

Nottingham Road is known as the heart of the KwaZulu Natal Midlands and travelling along the Midlands Meander one is invited to experience a myriad of shops, restaurants and farm stalls that offer just about everything from antiques and pianos to candle making, cheese, chocolates and pancakes.

The Midlands is well known for fly fishing and this is supported by two fly fishing shops located in Nottingham Road. In addition, the area offers a museum at Fort Nottingham, health hydros, golf courses, numerous wedding venues and a micro brewery. Not to mention the legendary and haunted Nottingham Road Hotel.

Location

Waterwoods is on the Midlands Meander route and only 12 km's away from Nottingham Road. We are 30 minutes away from Howick and 45 minutes from Pietermaritzburg. Travelling time from Johannesburg is approximately 4 hours and 1.5 hours from Durban.

Whether you enjoy hiking, cycling, fishing or simply enjoying the view, Waterwoods is your home away and central to the enjoyment of this unique and scenic part of South Africa.

The cottage was clean and well equipped. The gentleman at the gate was excellent about opening for us and assisting with carrying luggage to the room. We spent two very comfortable nights at Waterwoods and would certainly consider it in the future if staying in the area.
