Hard to believe that Umhlanga, the buzzing residential, commercial and resort suburb just outside of Durban, was once a seaside resort town called Umhlanga Rocks. During the early seventies it merged with La Lucia to become what it is today - Umhlanga - pronounced Umshlanga and meaning “place of reeds” in Zulu. Drive North onto the N2 Freeway. From the N2, take the Umhlanga / Gateway Shopping Center turnoff. Follow the M41, keeping left until you get to the Umhlanga Rocks Drive turnoff. Take the turnoff and follow Umhlanga Rocks Drive (M12) until you cross the bridge over the M4 into Lighthouse road. Drive past the Protea Hotel in Lighthouse road. Take a right at the Caltex Petrol station into Lagoon Drive. Drive past the Oysters apartments in Lagoon Drive. At the T-junction take a left turn into Ocean Way towards the sea. Follow the road right into Marine Drive and follow until it becomes Forest Drive. Drive past Durban View Park and Teremok bed and breakfast. Seashelles is at 149 Forest Drive on your right upper side.
