Quaggasfontein Private Game Reserve is a hidden treasure near the town of Colesberg, set within the expansive landscapes of the Karoo. The reserve is dedicated to preserving the simple and authentic rhythms of life that are so vividly expressed in this unique environment.

Accommodation

Guests can select from a variety of well-appointed rooms that comfortably accommodate two to four people. Each room is furnished with either king-size beds paired with single or double beds and features en-suite bathrooms with either a shower only or a combined bath and shower. Tea and coffee-making facilities, bar fridges, and Wi-Fi are provided in every room. Some rooms open onto a patio that overlooks the garden, and air-conditioning is available to ensure maximum comfort.

On Site Facilities

Guests may enjoy a game of tennis or relax by the swimming pool. Laundry services, as well as dinner and breakfast, can be arranged upon request for an additional charge, and guided game drives are also available. The indoor Lapa can be privately hired and features a large bar, dining and lounge areas, and braai facilities.

Positioned just ten metres from a waterhole, the Lapa offers frequent opportunities to observe the free-roaming game up close. A stone wall surrounding the lodge further enhances the experience of viewing wildlife.

The Private Reserve

Covering 28,000 hectares, the reserve provides a peaceful retreat where guests can encounter herds of both small and large herbivores. These range from the delicate springbok, once dominant in the Karoo, to the powerful Cape Buffalo.

Location & Attractions

Visitors can explore the Bushman etchings and the Von Plettenberg Beacon site on Quaggasfontein, where Governor von Plettenberg erected a beacon in 1778 to mark the northeasternmost point of the Cape Province. Historical accounts note that he and his party eliminated 23 hippos from the Seacow River, which were once native to the area. Quaggasfontein Private Game Reserve is located just 30 km from Colesberg, a town offering a range of shops and restaurants.
