Self Catering Accommodation
L'Ermitage Quagga Lodge offers self-catering in Velddrif in five modern chalets overlooking the river. Four chalets have two bedrooms and one chalet has one bedroom. All rooms are furnished with King-size or twin beds and en-suite bathrooms are fitted with a shower, toilet and basin.
There is a spacious lounge and dining area, a fully equipped kitchen as well as inside and outside BBQ facilities. Each chalet offers complimentary Wi-Fi, TV with satellite channels and ceiling fans.

Quagga Lodge Game Drives:
L'Ermitage Quagga Lodge is the proud home of approximately 40 Quaggas, which has been rebred out of extinction. We also have a couple of other rare species roaming its plains. These includes the Blonde Wildebeest, Blonde Gemsbok (Oryx), Sable, Springbok and Buffalo. The Berg River estuary is also an important bird habitat, as it is home to around 30,000 birds. Daily Game Drives will be available for our guests, offering a rare opportunity to see these beautiful animals in their natural habitat.
Berg River Estuary:
Rated as one of three top estuaries in South Africa, in terms of conservation, the Berg River Estuary starts 69 km upstream of its mouth in Velddrif on the Cape West Coast. It is one of only four perennial estuaries on this dry coast and its lower reaches are an Important Birding Area (IBA) – it supports 210 species of bird, 25 of which are nationally important, whilst up to 80% of the fish in the estuary use it as a nursery.
West Coast Fossil Park:
Visit the West Coast Fossil Park close to Langebaan, Western Cape, South Africa. See the fossils of bears, sabre-tooth cats, short-necked giraffes and the many other exotic animals which inhabited the west coast area some 5 million years ago.
Port Owen Marina:
There are many opportunities for sailing, boating and fishing, as well as a playground and an open-air heated pool for the kids. Relax, enjoy fun activities, discover the area and take pleasure in a variety of sporting facilities. Most apartments have access to a jetty and guests can bring their own boats and water sport equipment. Don't forget your binoculars, as the area is a birding hotspot.
West Coast River Cruise:
Enjoy one of our leisurely 2 hour boat trips and experience the beauty of the Berg River from a different perspective. On a small passenger vessel operating from Bokkomlaan in Velddrif, you can enjoy boat trips on the Berg River for Small Functions, Birthday Parties, Workshops, Sunset Cruises and Environmental Education. Come, relax and spend some time in nature!
