About KwaThabisile Bush Retreat
KwaThabisile Game Lodge is situated in the Leeuwkloof Valley Conservancy, a 400-hectare game reserve within 1 hour from Johannesburg and 30 minutes from Pretoria, and offers self-catering accommodation in fully equipped units. In the heart of Gauteng, Dinokeng ‘a place of rivers', and Leeuwkloof valley, is a game lodge surrounded by wildlife roaming in a 400 hectare game reserve.
SELF CATERING ACCOMMODATION
The accommodation offers a welcoming retreat for couples, families, and groups of friends seeking a peaceful escape with all the comforts of home. Each unit includes a thoughtfully appointed kitchenette, ceiling or standing fans for warmer days, and hot water bottles to take the edge off winter’s chill.
Guests will find bath and hand towels provided, as well as practical items such as a torch, paraffin lamps, matches, and a supply of firewood. Kindly note that firewood is to be settled before departure. Upon request, we also offer a hairdryer, iron and ironing board, laundry services, binoculars, an assortment of books, and a variety of board games for your enjoyment.
KwaThabisile offers seven distinctive units that reflect a blend of rustic African style and refined comfort. Each space is dressed in crisp percale cotton linen, feather duvets, and soft pillows. The décor is enhanced by a curated collection of mementos gathered from Alexandra’s travels across the African continent. These thoughtful touches lend each room a sense of authenticity and character. All units are fully self-catering and together offer a total of eleven bedrooms.

Communal Area
Guests are invited to relax by the swimming pool, which is flanked by deck chairs and shaded by umbrellas. The area offers sweeping views of the surrounding valley and bush, particularly stunning at sunset. A versatile function room is available for guests' use, equipped with DSTV, a ping-pong table, a mini-snooker table, a trampoline, and a compact library. Two open-air bomas provide the perfect setting for gathering around a fire in the evening, offering both warmth and a touch of the wild.
Pets
Pets are welcome by arrangement, and owners are kindly asked to clean up after them. Our resident dogs, Max, a male Boerboel, and Bibi, a female long-wire-haired terrier, are friendly and sociable companions who enjoy meeting new visitors. For hygiene and safety reasons, pets are not permitted in the swimming pool.
Activities on Site
At KwaThabisile, guests are invited to experience our own ‘Out of Africa’ moment. Enjoy sundowners as the sun dips over the Leeuwkloof Valley, followed by the nocturnal symphony of the bush, best appreciated beside the gentle crackle of a fire in the boma. Breakfast by the pool offers panoramic views of the valley, and the pond invites quiet reflection. Bushwalks provide the opportunity to reconnect with nature, where each step is accompanied by birdsong and the presence of local game.
Guests can look forward to exploring scenic hiking and walking trails, wildlife viewing, birdwatching, fishing, and studying the flora and smaller fauna of the area. The property is home to over 240 grazing animals, including kudu, zebra, impala, wildebeest, eland, blesbuck, duiker, steenbok, and waterbuck. Also present are warthogs, jackals, porcupines, mongooses, vervet monkeys, bushbabies, baboons, caracals, and a wide variety of reptiles, frogs, and tortoises. Bird enthusiasts will delight in the opportunity to observe over 200 species that have been recorded in the surrounding landscape.
