About Glen Oakes Farm

In the upper reaches of the Hemel en Aarde Valley, Glen Oakes is a working livestock farm where the owners have built something of a quiet revolution in ethical farming. Their pasture-reared pigs are raised with genuine care and affection, foraging freely on a rich and natural diet of open pasture, seasonal acorns, roots and grubs, a lifestyle that reflects the Crowthers' unwavering belief that animals deserve nothing less.

Accommodation

Choose between our characterful stone house or select a warm wood cabin, both complete with a fireplace, cosy sofas, a braai area, spring-fed rock pools and a sundeck perfectly suited to long, unhurried afternoons.

The Klein River Mountains rise behind the property, with indigenous fynbos and pasture stretching across the front, creating a setting that feels equally suited to a romantic retreat or a lively, restorative stay with family and friends. Your privacy throughout is absolute.

The individual unit descriptions and photographs below are provided to help guide your choice of accommodation.

About the Farm

Glen Oakes carries a distinction that is unique on the African continent, holding full accreditation from A Greener World Foundation (AGW) for the ethical, pasture-based raising of pigs, sheep and cattle, the first farm in Africa to achieve this recognition.

Across its 300 hectares, 200 of which are given over to mountain and natural fynbos, the land itself tells the story of a farm managed with purpose and integrity. The daily rhythms of a working farm provide a quietly compelling backdrop to any stay, while those who wish to explore more actively will find an excellent network of trails inviting them to walk, run or mountain bike through truly spectacular surroundings.

Location & Attractions

Few farm stays can claim quite such a well-rounded location. The celebrated wine estates of the Hemel en Aarde Valley lie practically on the doorstep, offering world-class tastings among breathtaking scenery, while a carefully chosen selection of outstanding local restaurants ensures that memorable dining is never far away.

The beloved town of Hermanus, internationally renowned for whale watching and striking coastline, is within easy reach, as is the historic village of Genadendal, a place of deep cultural significance and quiet beauty. For the adventurous, Cape Agulhas beckons, the true southern tip of the African continent, a destination that few visitors ever forget.
