Perched on a secluded ridge dotted with ancient baobabs just north of the Luvuvhu River, Baobab Hill House occupies the historic site of the former Pafuri ranger’s station. This characterful bush homestead offers an appealing retreat for families or groups of friends seeking privacy, comfort, and an authentic wilderness setting.

Self-Catering Accommodation

Baobab Hill House comprises four bedrooms and accommodates up to eight guests in a relaxed yet well organised layout. The house features a fully equipped kitchen, an open plan dining room and lounge, and a swimming pool for cooling off during warm bushveld days. An iconic Out of Africa style veranda provides an inviting space for early evening meals or sundowners as the landscape settles into dusk.

The house is thoughtfully arranged and includes four separate bedrooms, each fitted with two single beds, along with three bathrooms offering either a bath or a shower and complimentary toiletries. No cots or additional beds are available, which helps preserve the comfort and balance of the living spaces.

Guests enjoy a distinctive stay enhanced by features such as a scenic swimming pool and a fireplace that brings warmth and atmosphere during cooler evenings. The living area is comfortable and welcoming, while the private kitchen is well appointed with a refrigerator, oven, stovetop, toaster, electric kettle, and tea and coffee making facilities. Meals can be enjoyed around the dining table or outdoors, where a built in barbecue and dedicated dining area make al fresco entertaining a natural choice.

The house opens onto a terrace and patio with sweeping mountain views, creating a calm and restorative setting for relaxation. Practical amenities include a private entrance, a seating area, fresh linen and towels, a safety deposit box, and a fan. Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the house, ensuring a clean and pleasant environment throughout.

The property is unfenced, allowing wildlife to move freely through the area. To assist guests in exploring the remarkable diversity of the concession, a professional guide and an open safari vehicle are available. Whether you choose to explore on foot or by vehicle is entirely up to you.

Optional Catering

Although the house operates on a self catering basis, catering can be arranged at an additional cost for guests who prefer not to cook. The restaurant and bar at Pafuri Camp also offer a convenient dining alternative.

Included in the rates

The rates include the services of a cook, a housekeeper, and a camp hand, as well as two private game drives per day. Impact levies are excluded.

Location & Attractions

The private Makuleke Contract Park in the far northern reaches of the Kruger National Park is widely regarded as one of the finest areas for walking safaris in the park. This exceptional region combines rich biodiversity with dramatic scenery, seasonal concentrations of large mammals, and a rare sense of remoteness and historical depth.

The landscape is shaped by the Limpopo and Luvuvhu rivers, whose broad floodplains and seasonal pans provide vital water sources for wildlife. Between these rivers lies a ridge of hills threaded with drainage lines and hidden perennial springs that consistently attract game. Baobab crowned kopjes rise from mopane woodland, while expansive views stretch across palm lined floodplains, acacia savannah, and delicate riverine forests.

The Makuleke region was returned to its rightful owners, the Makuleke community, who were forcibly removed from the area in 1969. This land restitution formed part of the first successful claims settled after the end of apartheid. Today, the Makuleke community continues to co manage the region for conservation as an integral part of the greater Kruger National Park, preserving both its natural heritage and its historical significance.
