About Lion & Safari Park

The Lion Park lies between Lanseria Airport and Fourways, making it incredibly convenient and a wonderful first encounter with South Africa.

Did you know? You can self-drive through the Lion & Safari Park as the route is fairly easy to follow, or take a guided game drive that is, possibly, more informative.

If you are pressed for time, or your trip does not include a journey to one of the major game reserves in South Africa, then it follows that you might still want to view lions 'up close and personal' in a wildlife conservation enclosure.

In fact, if you've just jetted in via Lanseria Airport, you could make it one of the first things you do after stepping off the plane, as the Lion & Safari Park lies between Lanseria Airport and Fourways, making it incredibly convenient, and a wonderful first encounter with South Africa.

Over 80 lions, including a number of rare white lions, share the Lion Park with other carnivores like the cheetah, wild dog, brown and spotted hyena, and a number of antelope and zebra.

A visit to the Lion & Safari Park includes an opportunity to interact with the animals in a number of ways:

The Predator Tour
Get up close to elegant predators (including lions, cheetahs and wild dogs) and learn more about their habits and adaptations. Along the way, you’ll also get to see zebra and other antelope.

Lion Cub Interactions
Enjoy the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to cuddle and play with lion cubs, which also happen to be very photogenic.

Kiddies’ Bunny Interaction Area
Little ones love snuggling with a fluffy bunny.

Cheetah or Lion Walk
Walk side-by-side with the world’s fastest land animal or the king of the savannahs for a truly humbling experience.

Giraffe Feeding
A giraffe feeding platform that brings you face-to-face with these superbly tall, always elegant African animals.

You can self-drive through the main park as the route is fairly easy to follow, or take a guided game drive that is, possibly, more informative. Night safaris are thrilling, showcasing a different collection of animals that prefer to be more active after dark. The animals are in enclosures, which gives visitors the opportunity of experiencing these beautiful beasts first-hand.

The Alex Tour is named after world-renowned lion trainer, animal behaviourist, and film wrangler, Alex Larenty. He will take visitors on an incredibly special tour, during which they’ll watch him interact fearlessly and with massive insight with full-grown lions and other wild cats.

From the Lion & Safari Park, visitors can head down to the Crocodile River for a guided river rafting adventure. These excursions take about two hours, and all of the equipment is supplied by the park.

In addition to the animals, there is a kiddies’ play area, as well as the Wetlands Bar and Restaurant, and the Bull ‘n Buck Grill. The Frozen Kingdom Ice Cream Parlour and Coffee Shop is always a hit for a quick pit-stop. Local arts and crafts, jewellery, clothing and goodies for the home are found at the 5 Dome Shopping Experience.
