DESCRIPTION:
About 1 ¾ hours drive from Cape Town and 10 km before Citrusdal village, Nuwedam Farm is situated on top of the Olifants River Mountains. The farm is a working pomegranate, soft fruit, citrus and Rooibos farm with beautiful views over Sandstone Mountains which are covered in natural fynbos. Views from the farm to the Western side is over the Swartland Escarpment and on the eastern side of the valley the Middelberg Mountains seems weightless in the haze.
Pomegranate Cottage
The cottage offers panoramic views over the farm dam and mountains in the back. The cottage has two en suite rooms each with A/C and double beds and 1 single bed – fitted with cotton percale bedding.
The one bathroom has a shower and the other en suite room has a bath. An open plan kitchen with inside braai area and living room has reed and pole ceilings and deep leather sofas for your afternoon siestas which are arranged near the fireplace, and a central fireplace which goes well with a glass of red wine.
The living room leads through double doors onto a terrace with hammocks and lantern lit atmosphere - perfect for sundowners, with a braai fire crackling, or gazing at stars later on. Coffee and tea is provided in the cottage.
Coffee shop and Steak House
For your breakfast needs, which can be added on the accommodation bill, the “Kardoesie” coffee shop is a good option, and for dinner we recommend “Die Sitrus” Steak House.
Fauna and Flora
An abundance of early morning animal life awaits you especially on the hiking trail (Duiker, porcupine, hares, baboon, tortoise, dassie,). Black Eagles, Secretary birds, Heron, and an early morning passage by Egyptian geese are spotted infront of the farm dam occasionally. At the back of the cottage the Pomegranate orchards give a feeling of nature and experiencing farm life
Experience
The cottage is independent and private, the perfect getaway from city life. Relax and experience the silence and country air from your own private cottage. Enjoy breakfast while watching a V shape flock of Sacred Ibis glide past, or an early morning coffee in hand while watching the sun come up over the Cederberg Mountains right behind the farm dam. Lanterns are provided, casting a warm and soft light to enjoy the fireplace. During August/September the whole countryside is carpeted in wild flowers.
Activities
The 8km hiking trail is highly recommended and truly amazing. It includes mind boggling rock formations, views over the Swartland on west and scenes of fynbos and sandstone mountains.
Village
Citrusdal (10km away) offers a lovely coffee shop, steak house, golf course, quad bikes and paintball activities. The village hosts four annual events which include a golf event, mountain bike event, canoe marathon and a 4x4 weekend. Citrusdal is also the perfect base to explore the West coast with famous open air restaurants and crayfish festival. Elandsbay (50min from Citrusdal) is rated the best left hand point break (surfing) in Africa, and Rockland’s (45min from Citrusdal) is rated the second best rock climbing spot (bouldering) in the world! |
