DESCRIPTION:
Experience life on this working wine farm in the Stellenbosch wine region. Muratie is as old as history itself, lying at the foot of the Simonsberg with a view of Table Mountain, guarded over by ancient oak trees you will find Muratie, a treasure to be enjoyed. The old fermentation tanks in the cellar with their tartaric encrusted walls, old carpets, wooden furniture and original art is where you will enjoy honest farm food, good wine and great company. Become part of the magic of Muratie and stay over in the studio of the famous SA artist G.P. Canitz. A perfect little paradise providing comfort, peace and beauty.
Muratie’s wines, in the words of the late Ronnie Melck, “humble, honest and full of integrity, with quality being the only answer”. Ronald (Ronnie) Rijk Melck, one of the great characters of the South African wine industry, became the 21st owner of Muratie and, in doing so, fulfilled a lifelong dream.
This very popular wine man, possessed of a legendary palate, warm personality and an instinctive flare for winemaking, initiated the redevelopment of Muratie, which has taken the farm to what it is today. Ronnie left the Muratie legacy in trust to his family and the farm is at present under the dedicated management of his children.
“Nowhere else in this beautiful wineland of ours are you so strongly reminded that the history of wine here is as old as South Africa itself. Here you can once again become aware that the art of wine-making arose on those pieces of earth where people with an exceptional joy in life had settled” Maureen Joubert - Journalist
