Accommodation

Mai offers a choice of four comfortable, air-conditioned, spacious bedrooms, each with its own bathroom-en-suite and DSTV and fridge and coffee and tea. One has a double and single bed, two have a queen-sized and a single bed, and there is a family room with a double bed and bunk beds.

Breakfast

Mai serves a hearty breakfast: there's fruit juice, a wide choice of muesli and cereals. The yoghurt and milk come from Gay's Dairy. Jams and preserves are made in the village and the fruit in season comes from the garden or local farms. Mai cooks up a feast of eggs, bacon and extras, toast and tea or coffee to set you up for the day.

RELAX

Mai’s Guest Lodge lends itself to relaxing: take a dip in the sparkling pool in its sheltered courtyard, laze on the front verandah or in the cosy lounge. Massage treatments, reiki, facials and manicures are available in the village.

Attractions & Activities

Prince Albert offers art galleries, craft shops, star-watching with an astronomer, a ghost walk, a local story-teller, a fascinating village Museum, a wide range of architectural styles - including examples of a local gable, two wine cellars, farm visits, 4x4 and hiking trails and day trips into the Swartberg Pass, to Oudtshoorn and the Karoo National Park. Mai can recommend coffee shops and restaurants for teas, light lunches and dinners.

Prince Albert lies some 400km from Cape Town and 200km from the nearest airport in George. Nestling against the Swartberg Mountains, it grew from the farm, Kweekvallei, established in 1762 on the banks of a river whose source is sparkling springs in the Swartberg Mountains. The life-giving water was used to good effect to create an oasis in the otherwise dry Great Karoo. It still runs through the streets in bubbling furrows, nurturing fragrant gardens and adding a gentle murmur to the tranquil streets.

Your hostess, Mai, offer the very best of Irish hospitality in Prince Albert.
Cead mile failte - a hundred thousand welcomes.
