DESCRIPTION:

Buchu Bushcamp is situated 35km off the N2 highway between Cape Town and the Garden Route, and a mere 1km from the main gate of the De Hoop Nature Reserve. Perched 140m above the De Hoop Nature Reserve, walking trails within the immediate vicinity of the Buchu Bushcamp afford one spectacular views over the De Hoop vlei and coastline.

Situated midway between Cape Town and the Garden route, Buchu Bushcamp is an excellent stopover on your way to the Garden Route. Less than three hours from both Cape Town and George. A perfect year-round destination - Just 175km due east of Cape Town, Buchu Bushcamp lies just out of the winter rainfall region.

“Comfortable Rustic” best describes the spacious 3-star accommodation at Buchu Bushcamp. All the chalets offer our guests a generous 40m² en-suite bedroom and living area with an outside deck. Each chalets is carefully positioned to maximise privacy and all are accessed by separate boardwalks.

The chalets are equipped with bar fridges stocked according to your preference, a kettle and ample tea and coffee.

Dining & Hospitality


The “Lapa”: This charming thatched structure, raised well above the ground, is the focal point of bushcamp life. Comprising living and dining areas, an indoor/outdoor licensed pub and private reading room the lapa caters for a comprehensive array of our guests’ needs. The tiered deck running the length of the northern side of the lapa is an ideal spot to soak up the sun and fresh air while the bushcamp staff spoil you with traditional South African hospitality.

Pristine Fynbos:
Situated within the Cape Floral Kingdom, the vegetation is pristine Limestone Proteoid Fynbos, a low-land fynbos with over 1,500 plant species. Although there’s a constant flush of new flowers throughout the year, some of the most spectacular shrubs, including the Protea and Pincushion, are in full bloom between June and September.

Whale-watching:
The De Hoop Nature Reserve and Marine Sanctuary is the breeding ground of choice for Southern Right whales that visit the African coastline between July and November each year. The high sand dunes and sandstone cliffs near Koppie Alleen offer some of the most spectacular land-based whale watching in the world.

DIRECTIONS:

From Cape Town
Take the N2 to Caledon, and from Caledon the R316 to Napier and Bredasdorp. At the third 4-way stop street in Bredasdorp turn left onto the R319 towards Swellendam. Aproximately 8km from town turn right onto the gravel road to the De Hoop Nature Reserve and travel 34km to the De Hoop Road. Turn right and travel a further 6km towards the main gate of the De Hoop Nature Reserve.

From the Garden Route
Take the N2 towards Cape Town. Approximately ±4km on the Cape Town side of Swellendam turn LEFT onto the gravel road towards Malgas and Infanta. Continue on this road for about 24km, before turning RIGHT, at the De Hoop signpost. The turn RIGHT at the T-junction and travel a further 4km to the De Hoop Road. Turn LEFT onto the De Hoop Road and continue for 6km to the main gate of the De Hoop Nature Reserve.
