DESCRIPTION:

Set amidst spectacular mountains and fynbos in the Robertson Karoo, Amathunzi Private Nature Reserve offers 3 000 ha of unspoilt peace and quiet just 90 minutes from Cape Town International Airport. We offer a fusion between pristine wilderness and the comfort of the luxurious accommodation.

Game has successfully been reintroduced and species include eland, gemsbok, red hartebeest, kudu, black wildebeest and springbok. The elusive Cape Mountain Leopard regularly passes through the property, whilst aardvark activity is often observed.

Birdwatchers will be rewarded, given the abundance of water on the property. Species observed include the Black Harrier, Pale Chanting Goshawk, Malachite Sunbird and various owls. Recently we have introduced fish into the dams.

The veldt offers a fascinating diversity of succulent Karoo plants, bulbs and geophytes, whilst the dry river beds are home to acacia and sand olive trees. Each season brings its own highlights, with spring providing colourful carpets of flowers.

Accommodation

Have breakfast al fresco on the expansive wooden deck and enjoy the culinary delights prepared by our chef for dinner in the luxuriously decorated lodge or at the boma under a truly magnificent African sky. A secluded pool area provides privacy and relief against the summer heat. The main lodge and chalets overlook a dam where game come to quench their thirst.

The Chalets
The five chalets each offer a King-size bed, shower and bath en-suite, safe, open fireplace and coffee / tea making facilities.

Manor House
The manor house is totally removed and secluded from the lodge. It has 5 spacious bedrooms (all en-suite) and living areas extend unto a large veranda and stone-clad swimming pool. The layout makes it ideal for 2 families to share. The house is fully equipped (stove, microwave and dishwasher) and equipped for self catering, although guests can choose to enjoy prepared meals at the lodge.

Cottage
The 1-bedroomed cottage, with a sleeper couch in the lounge, is fully equipped and offers self-catering facilities for a small family.
