Akademie Street Guesthouses offers five-star accommodation in five unique buildings all situated on the same beautiful property in a quiet area of the village Franschhoek in the heart of the Cape Winelands. There are four sun-kissed swimming pools and shady, gardens where one can lie in privacy and listen to the splashing of the fountains, the song of the cicadas, the cooing of the Cape Doves … sounds so evocative of the Cape Winelands. This is coupled with the personal service that only a very small, family owned and managed, five-star guesthouse/boutique-hotel can give. From this retreat one can stroll to the village centre and its famous restaurants. Historic wine farms, great golf courses, hiking, fly-fishing and riding are close by.

ACCOMMODATION


GELATENHEID (Equanimity)
This is our largest (220 square metre) guesthouse - a double storey just for two. The en-suite loft bedroom with king size bed, dressing and living room area opens onto an upstairs veranda with special views over the mountains and vineyards. There is a romantic bath under the trees with a heated towel rail. Downstairs there is a kitchen and a dining area overlooking a large pool and private garden.

OORTUIGING (Conviction)
This is our 1860’s luxury cottage nestled under a giant white stinkwood tree. It has two en-suite bedrooms, a lounge, a kitchen and a dining room. It has its own pool and private shade and sun gardens. Oortuiging can sleep three but takes two in spacious luxury.

VREUGDE (Joy)
Sleeps two in a king-size bed or, if previously requested, in twin three-quarter beds. The bath and shower are separate, there is a small kitchenette and French doors open onto a wide veranda with beautiful garden and private pool. One can lounge on the leather sofa on the porch listening to the birds and the singing of the fountain. This is a very intimate private place.

UITSIG (View)
Sleeps two in a king-size bed or, if previously requested, in twin three-quarter beds. The bath and shower are separate and French doors open onto a sun-baked balcony with a lovely view of the mountains. This private, upstairs suite is wonderfully comfortable. Uitsig shares a large heated pool and garden with Twyfeling.

TWYFELING (Doubting)
This is a gracious Cape Dutch style house with large living rooms and two large bedroom suites both of which sleep two in a king-size bed or, if previously requested, in twin three-quarter beds. Twyfeling shares a large heated pool and garden with Uitsig.
All our prices include VAT, Franschhoek Tourism levy, generous breakfasts, welcoming bottle of Champagne, free drinks, telephone, inter-net / Wi-Fi and laundry.

DIRECTIONS:

From Cape Town International Airport
Exit the airport in the direction of the N2 expressway (Cape Town). Turn off at the Somerset West sign (watch for it - it comes up quite soon). Keep on the N2 and exit at the Baden Powell Drive / Stellenbosch sign. Turn left and continue for quite a distance (past Spier Estate) untill you come to a T- junction. Turn right onto the dual road - this leads into the town of Stellenbosch. Continue along this road (Adam Tas Street) untill you pass the railway station on your left. You come to a yield sign leading to the left. Keep going left. Keep straight on untill just past the industrial/commercial areas then look for a sign to the right saying Franschhoek via Helshoogte Pass. Go right through the pass (past Boschendal Estate) untill you reach a T-junction. Turn Right and about 15km later you will find yourself in Franschhoek.

From Cape Town Centre (about an hour’s drive)
Take the N1 expressway towards Paarl, Drive a fairly long way until you get to exit 47 where sign says R44/R103 Stellenbosch, Klapmuts, Wellington. Turn right. Fairly soon come to a 4-way stop. Cross over and shortly thereafter you will see a sign to left saying Franschhoek.Continue for about 9 km until you reach a T-junction. Turn right and keep driving until you find yourself in the town of Franschhoek

To find Akademie Street Guesthouses once in Franschhoek
Drive through Franschhoek until the end of town – the monument in front of you. Turn left. The second road is Akademie Street turn left (You cannot go right). Come to Twyfeling at the big oak trees. You will see the Akademie Street Guesthouses sign.
