Gansbaai

1½ hours from Cape Town, Gansbaai, which is now becoming known as "BIG-2-TOWN", is situated on Walker Bay. Gansbaai is a traditional fishing village with a harbour and spectacular views stretching along the coast to Cape Point. Miles of unspoiled beaches, fresh water caves and spectacular country side covered in Fynbos make this an area of contrast and wonder.

Gansbaai offers the finest boat-based and land based whale watching in the world! From De Kelders cliffs one can literally see the callosities on the heads of our splendid Southern Right Whales (BIG 1). You can watch these gentle giants playing from as close as 20m! Boat cruises to Dyer Island (marine bird sanctuary) and Geyer Rock (Cape Fur Seal colony) will take you for an "up close and personal" encounter with these magnificent animals. Often these curious creatures come right up to the side of the boat. What a magical experience!

Dyer Island is home to incredible marine bird life. Next to Dyer Island lies Geyser Rock, which houses a large colony of Cape Fur seals. The remains of old wrecks have found their way to rest on the "The Rock". Between these islands lies "Shark Alley", where the oceans greatest predator feeds. The grace and mystery of the awesome Great White Shark (BIG 2) has drawn visitors from across the world, as Gansbaai is one of the few places left in the world where one can still cage-dive with these fantastic creatures!
