Dining

Enjoy a pizza under the trees at Yellow Wood Park. You do have to wait a while as nobody is in a rush on the Wild Coast but the children do not mind as there is a tree house and a jungle gym to keep them occupied whilst you wait. Try breakfast or tea under the thatched gazebo at the Mud Hutters where you may also buy homemade breads and other tasty eats and treats during the season.

Have a drink at the Bushpig Pub at Kei Mouth anytime of the day or night. Décor…Wild Coast version of rustic! You expect Robinson Crusoe to pop out of the woodwork at any minute. The local hotel serves pub lunches/suppers at reasonable prices. You can take a short drive to Kei Mouth and try their eating spots too. I don’t use the word “restaurant” as this is the Wild Coast which may have a rather different interpretation of the word.

Activities

Morgan’s Bay is ideally situated for exploring the Wild Coast whilst enjoying home comforts as the Kei River is only 4km from Morgan’s Bay. There is a pont (ferry) at the river which makes for easy crossings to the Wild Coast where you can enjoy lunch at one of the quaint Wild Coast hotels.

If you are looking for peace and tranquillity just sit on the deck and enjoy the view of the lagoon and sea or take a walk on the beautiful unspoilt beach. To keep busy you can play a round of golf at nearby Kei Mouth, swim, fish or paddle a canoe. The more adventurous can ride horses on the beach and in Nature Reserves. Beginner and advanced riders are catered for.

Morgan’s Bay is part of the Wild Coast Hiking trail. You can walk part of the trail from Morgan’s Bay to Double Mouth Nature Reserve where the hikers have an overnight stop. It is 4 km from Morgan’s Bay to Double Mouth.

Inkwenkwezi Private Game Reserve is 60 km from Morgan’s Bay and is a wonderful outing if you are tired of the beach. They offer half-day game drives at a very reasonable rate which includes lunch. You are driven around in their open-topped 4x4 vehicles which give you a bird’s eye view of the game. You can also get up close and personal with elephants at the Game Reserve - a real treat in this malaria free area.
