I grew up 5km from the place, I used to fish the river downstream with bread and a pocket line. I knew we were fishing for trout and we always caught big ones, real big ones both rainbow and brown> in 2007 having left the highveld for some time i started fyl fishing. The first place i though of visiting was the home of all those big bruts I use to catch as a kid, so i visited the club. I received a warm welcome from the old couple, though they seem suprised of a black boy wanting to fish their water(i guess they were just use to the fact that we usually just tresspass claiming its all gods fish, i laugh evertime i think about this, how wrong we were, trout in SA belongs to someone, its not purely a god thing). So ya there I was on the banks of the dams, managing only about a 15 feet cast, and fish was jumping all around me just a further 20 feet away from where i was standing. i did manage to catch one big, real big rainbow and a bass, but the technque used was nowhere near the required. I have since visited many trout venues and still regard the machado club as the 1st or second interms of trout vailability andsize in relation to the total size of fishable water. |
