If your heart yearns for a tranquil blend of seclusion and luxury then Lions River Country Cottages, award winning accommodation, is your perfect escape into the solitude of the countryside. Tucked alongside the banks of the Lions River, the cottages lie amongst rolling hills that offer lovers, weary travellers or holiday individuals a serene stay in one of the most picturesque areas of the Midlands. Accommodation:Each cottage is very spacious and being free standing and far apart therefore offering peace, quiet and total privacy. All the cottages are serviced, self-catering units - breakfast optional - with all bedding, linen, bath towels, kitchen utensils, crockery, cutlery and glassware supplied. The cottages each have a spacious and comfortable lounge area with open Jetmaster fireplace, a dining table, a fully equipped open plan kitchen with electric stove, microwave oven, a fridge (with separate freezer compartment) and a dish washer. Each cottage is equipped with a Sony stereo TV and DVD player, connected to the dish and decoder, but should you wish to view DStv remember to bring your SIM card. The cottages all have large comfortable bedrooms, with queen size beds and the larger cottages also have two single beds in the second bedroom. Each bedroom has an en-suite bathroom, complete with bath and shower, and for your comfort during those crisp winter mornings, under-floor heating. The large covered patios, each equipped with a Weber braai, make them the perfect setting for an outdoor meal and sundowners, combining with a panoramic views of the Midlands. Rose (sleeps 6 + 2): Wrapped in greater comfort and space and built on a higher slope, Rose Cottage has all the luxury you need for a large family, or a group of excellent friends who wish to share two main bedrooms as well as 3rd bed room with two single beds. Protea (sleeps 4 + 2): This cottage boasts one of the best views on the property, offering a sweeping vista of the far flung hills and valleys of the Midlands. Here you can enjoy a luxury bedroom, the en-suite having a spa bath, a 2nd bedroom with two single beds as well as a bunk bed in the passage nook which provide an entire family or group of friends with plenty of space and time to unwind. And should the mood capture you, a short, leisurely walk will take you down to the banks of the lazy Lions River. Lavender (sleeps 2 + 1): Imagine sitting on a verandah fringed by the cool, blue mauve colour of lavender and surrounded by a horizon of sweetly swelling hills that form the outer boundaries of the Midlands. This cozy cottage is perfect for two lovers or a couple with one child and offers one main bedroom and an extra bed tucked into the lounge. Guest Suite (sleeps 2 + 1): For that perfect cozy getaway, the Guest Suite offers a large lounge as well as a small dining area and kitchenette. This quaint suite has a separate entrance which opens out into a lush and leafy garden off its own private verandah, and is ideal for two. Breakfast:We offer an optional breakfast, which needs to be booked before your arrival. Activities:“Our” river provides us with excellent private river frontage for fishing, swimming in our river pool, or simply enjoying an idyllic braai, or stroll, along the river banks. Other activities available to our guests are, tubing in our dam, mountain biking and croquet, and as the area is in the centre of the Midlands Meander, all the extra activities you may want to indulge in, such a shopping for ceramics, clothes and jewellery, shoes, golf, horse riding, Midmar Dam water-sports, or even hot air balloon rides, are all within easy reach of our location. Location:We are just over an hour's drive from Durban and about four hours from Johannesburg and being in the heart of the Meander there are a large number of excellent local restaurants, all within easy reach. The Midlands Meander is home to many of South Africa's most talented artists, and a tantalizing array of arts and crafts are a few tempting kilometres away. A ten minutes drive will take you into the town of Howick which has an excellent variety of bars and restaurants, several shopping centres, all the major banks, a Post Office, doctors, a hospital, as well as several places of worship.
