Map and Directions to Dolphin B&B + S/C in Britannia Bay, Cape West Coast, Western Cape

DIRECTIONS

From Stellenbosch / Somerset West
Take the R304/R302 via Malmesbury joining the N7. From the N7, turn left onto the R45 (to Hopefield). At the R27 (West Coast road), crossroad turn right (turning left takes one back to Cape Town. Approximately 5 km on, turn left onto a gravel road (only 4 km of it) to St Helena Bay. This will bring you to the R399 crossroad (right takes one to Velddrif and left takes you back to Vredenburg). Cross over the intersection and follow the road to Stompneusbaai via St Helena Bay.

Note: This route bypasses Vredenburg saving 20 km. However, if you need to go into Vredenburg itself, then cross over the intersection and travel 9 km to the town. Directions at the robot as you enter the town will show you the way out again (i.e. the route to Velddrif) and approximately 9 km on take left turn to St Helena Bay.

Travel 17km (in a westerly direction) passing the following: Turnoff to Laingville * St Helena Hotel * Police Station * St Helena shopping centre / Total petrol pumps and turnoff into Sandy Point Harbour * Da Gama Monument. * left turn gravel road to Paternoster. Bypass the Stompneusbaai fishing village on the left (known affectionately, because of the brightly-painted roofs, as ‘Smartietown’). At the end of this settlement turn left (signboards say ‘Britannia Bay’ and ‘Shelley Point’ and there’s a Dolphin B&B road sign pointing to the left). Bypass Golden Mile development on the right – as is the bay. This development is not sign-posted but you travel along its boundary white wall. At the entrance another Dolphin B&B sign draws you further on into old Britannia Bay. Pass a sign at a left turn-in that says Boulevard/Travelodge Caravan Park, then a row of blue gum trees. Here the road S-bends to the right. Just past the three Flagship townhouses there is a sign pointing to the right to Britannia Bay; there is also a B&B + S/C road sign. The road S-bends to the right (an untarred road goes straight) and snakes again, to the left. The third road to the right is Ecklonia Street (next after Nerina). The brown international Dolphin B&B sign points to turn right. Ours is the sixth house on the right overlooking the bay with a bright teal-blue roof and the Dolphin B&B sign clearly is to be seen. Parking either down the driveway or on the off-ramp just above (avoid parking on neighbour’s property “Joan se Plek” please).

From Durbanville
Take the R27 (West Coast road) via Milnerton/Melkbosstrand. Depending on whether you wish to go into Vredenburg or not, follow directions above.

From Cape Town
Take either the N7 (road to the north bypassing Malmesbury) or the R27 (West Coast road). Depending on whether you wish to go into Vredenburg or not, follow directions above.

From Cape Town North
From the N7 and outside the town of Piketberg, take the road to Aurora/Velddrif. In the town of Velddrif – which runs along the Berg River – take a left turn at the fourway crossing over the bridge of the River and past Cerebos/National Salt Works. Take next right hand turn (R399) heading to Vredenburg/St Helena Bay. Approximately 8 km on take right turn (in westerly direction) to Stompneusbaai via St Helena Bay. Follow instructions further as above.
