The Blyde River Canyon (Molatse Canyon) is a significant natural feature of South Africa and is the third largest canyon in the world, after the Grand Canyon in the United States and the Fish River Canyon in Namibia. It is the second largest canyon in Africa, and is known as one of the great wonders of nature on the continent.
It was formed by rivers cutting deep into the escarpment and eroding millions of tons of rock which were carried to the Lowveld and beyond to the Indian Ocean. It is 26 kilometres' in length and about 800 meters deep.
The Kruger National Park is one of the most famous national parks in the world, and more than a century old. The Park measures 350 km from north to south, and approximately 60 km at its widest point, covering a total surface area of 1 948 528 hectares. The ecosystem is constantly maintained in its natural state to afford visitors the feeling and ambiance of true Africa.
