St Helena Bay Accommodation / Country Cabin St Helena Bay Accommodation / Self Catering Cabin in St Helena Bay

After settling in St Helena Bay over 11 years ago and creating a beautiful garden with over 200 trees, Barbara and Meyer Adendorff built Country Cabin, a self-catering cottage where they welcome visitors from every corner of the earth who come to experience the best of both worlds: country living and unparalleled panoramic views of the sea.

A perfect getaway for two, Country Cabin is tastefully decorated with Barbara’s wonderfully refreshing and lively paintings. “Many a visitor has left toting an artwork under his arm that he couldn’t resist buying,” says Barbara. “Each painting has a piece of my soul in it, but each one has to find a home where it satisfies the soul of someone else,” she says. That is how her creativity and inspiration stays fresh.

The porch is just the right spot to enjoy a glass of chilled wine at the end of a perfect day whilst watching the westerly setting sun dip over the Atlantic Ocean. Better still, why not spoil your partner with a champagne breakfast and soak in the sunrise. And you never know when you’ll be rewarded with a peak at the indigenous fauna.

Accommodation

Equipped for a couple, Country Cabin is let on a self-catering basis. Bring only your food and refreshments - and a smile - in return for which you’ll experience utter peace and natural beauty - and be rewarded in turn with a smile!

Guests have the choice of pottering in a well equipped kitchen or stoking the fire for a barbecue. Of course, local restaurants are there for the testing and offer a choice of seafood dishes (with lobster in season).

In the bedroom there is a double bed and all linen is provided, including towels, but do bring your own bathing towels to use at the pool, please.

Attractions & Activities

• For the fun of it, bring your bikes and spend the morning pedalling the hills - so reminiscent of the Scottish Highlands.
• For the more energetic, the area lends itself to hiking
• Only seven minutes away you can take your pick of some of the loveliest beaches the country has to offer.
• The lighthouse in the Cape Columbine Nature Reserve is well worth a visit, as is the little rocky bay named "Titties" or Titus Bay from a coloured fisherman who had the mis-fortune to be drowned there. And while you’re in the vicinity, maybe go out on a kayaking trip.
• Shuck an oyster at the nearby mariculture farm where you can learn more about these bivalve molluscs.
• In Sandy Point Harbour you can watch the deftness of the womenfolk as they vlek the snoek (barracuda family). Why not buy one to cook over the coals?
• Twenty minutes away is the combined municipality of Velddrif-Laaiplek where the Berg River spills out into St Helena Bay and is the ideal place to enjoy a sundowner cruise.
• Visit the many bak ‘n brou tuisnywerhede that the town has to offer and stop at the West Coast Gallery for a tasty lunchtime snack.

• Or there’s the ultimate option: to chill out and stay cool at the pool!
