Abbotsbury is a 4300 acre sheep farm situated on the N9 main road from Johannesburg and Durban to the Garden Route, Plettenberg Bay, Knysna and Cape Town. The beautiful valleys with their towering rock formations, where the Black Eagles, caracal and klipspringer live, are also home to the majestic kudu, mountain reedbuck and the rare grey rhebuck.

Just 3 kms off the N9, up a good gravel road through the grazing springbuck and steenbok, is the carefully restored homestead set in beautiful gardens with rolling green, manicured lawns. Sue and Gordon are there to meet you and show you into your accommodation, where you can relax in privacy after a day travelling or sightseeing. Enjoy warm hospitality, the fresh Karoo air and amazing night skies.

ACCOMMODATION


The accommodation comprises one 2-bedroom cottage and two private suites.

The Cottage:
The Cottage has a double bed in one bedroom and two singles in the other. It has two bathrooms, one en suite and one private. It has a lounge / dining room where all meals are served, and a private veranda and lapa.

The Suite:
The Suite has a private entrance to a large bedroom with twin beds, a full bathroom en-suite and private lounge / dining room.

The Garden Suite:
The Garden Suite has a large lounge / dining room where all your meals are served, a large bedroom with king-size bed and bathroom with shower en-suite. It also has bone china crockery, Sheffield cutlery, fine glassware, cotton linen, mohair blankets and carpets and white fluffy towels.

All the accommodation has white cotton linen, white fluffy towels, bone china crockery , silver cutlery and fine glassware. The furniture is predominantly restored antique Cape cottage furniture, with wool or mohair carpets. All accommodation has a safe, overhead fans and free-standing fans, heaters and wall heaters, alarm clocks, tea and coffee making facilities, fresh milk, home-made rusks and an honesty bar if required. Wrapped soaps, shampoo and body lotions are supplied.

DINING


Your meals, Abbotsburys large breakfast, or a dinner of local specialities of lamb, venison or vegetarian, with fresh vegetables and lettuce picked from her kitchen garden, and personally prepared by Sue, are served in your private dining room on bone china with silver cutlery and fine glassware.

ACTIVITIES


You can walk freely in this safe haven, with hiking paths up the valleys onto the mountains, or down to the hide where you can sit and watch some of the over 100 bird species identified by Gordon and Sue, especially the Black Eagles on their nest.

Close by is the Historic town of Graaff-Reinet with its Valley of Desolation, numerous well-known museums and art galleries, Nieu-Bethesda and the famous Owl House, and the Cradock Mountain Zebra Park with the rare Mountain Zebra.

LOCATION


Abbotsbury is situated on the N9 main road, 80 kms south of Middleburg, C.P. and 27 kms north of Graaff-Reinet, between Gauteng and Durban, and the Garden Route and Cape Town. Although the main road goes through the farm, the homestead is 3 kms off the main road, on a well-maintained gravel road.
