This bright orange house with a blue roof and blue picket fence gathers all folk and all activities. As long as you are under this roof... you will have no rules to live by. This spot is a Jeffreys Bay landmark having stood strong in its popularity despite numerous new developments. Time spent here is a combination of student party life and a day in Gran's kitchen.
The coffee shop and restaurant is fully licensed and as a result in good conscience offers a Hangover Special Breakfast or if you spent the entire contents of your piggy bank rocking with the band the night before may I present the Poor Butt Breakfast. This popular local hangout is the venue for hardcore bikers who ease up with their over easy eggs on breakfast runs. Girls gather over home-made cake and cappuccino sharing home-baked gossip at Kitchen Teas.
For the loner the free Wi-Fi provides 'stoep' (patio) company while sipping and nibbling. Cheeky, the resident dog, although on diet barks wildly in agreement that the calamari is the best in town.
The pottery studio provides you with the ideal re-enactment platform of your favourite scene from the movie Ghost. After 18 years the pottery studio is famous for its cherry decorated dinner service range but you can decorate your pottery designs as you like and after glazing take your works of art home to brag. The studio offers lessons by arrangement to all ages, even babies can make a fingerprint mug by printing their hand on a mug which is dated and named after them, great gift for the relatives. This is the perfect activity for a windy day in J-Bay.
The Potter's Place gift shop has a clothing line of flowing casual wear for warm lazy Jeffrey's Bay days. One-off pieces from the in-house studio line the weathered shelves for your retail therapy. Tongues in cheek slogans adorn t-shirts and 'medicine bottles' like the Sorry Pills Bottle. Little corners of the shop hide candles as well as porcelain and pottery treasures for your home. Decorate an afternoon by shopping for gifts for yourself or others. It is customary for everyone to buy a bottle of the 'Lekker warm sous' (nice hot sauce) which is spicy for pleasure but deadly for attitude.
Seasonal live shows and meals are combined in an arty set-up of tables overlooking the stage where you can enjoy dinner and party with South African music artists in a personal setting. Kiddie’s shows are also featured as live entertainment by local performers. Potter's Place is an unfussy fusion of food, friends, pottery, coffee, shopping, music and play. Casual, cheeky, chilled and cool ...
