Mountain Bike Trails in Wild Mountain Country in Barkly East, Eastern Cape

Mountain bike tracks abound in the Barkly East and Rhodes farming districts and we are developing trails for all abilities and levels of fitness. Our trails offer varied terrain and spectacular views, combining climbs, flats and descents with river crossings, gorges and open farmland. We can show you bushman paintings, waterfalls and caves - some spots so secret that even the locals don't know about them.

For the more novice riders there is an abundance of easy cycling on quiet gravel roads. The more experienced mountain-bikers will love our off-road trails with technical single track sections, rocky descents and river crossings. We offer guided and self-guided options and can provide picnic lunches. The self-guided cyclists are provided with a two-way radio so that we can provide vehicle backup if required.

We have 21 speed Raleigh mountain bikes for hire for those who want to cycle the quiet gravel roads and our set trails. These are entry level bikes, so MTB enthusiasts who want to try some of our extreme mountain descents should bring their own equipment (we offer discounted tours for those with their own bikes).

For the more competitive, why not try the Wartrail 2-Day MTB Challenge held in December. The Wartail Tri- Challenge, Wartrail Mini-Triathlon and the Rhodes Mountain Bike Challenge are other organized MTB events in the area.

We can also arrange for your mountain biking trip to be combined with other activities to form a multi-day adventure trail, staying at beautiful farmhouse accommodation along the way. We will even transport your luggage! You can cycle for several days if you want to although other options include hiking, skiing, horse riding, 4x4 trails, tubing and river rafting. Discounts are available if you bring your own mountain bikes.
