River Rafting on the Kraai

In the summer the rivers around Barkly East and Rhodes flow well and the water is warm - perfect for a day of paddling. Join Wild Mountain Adventures on inflatable river rafts for an unforgettable experience on the beautiful Kraai River. We can also offer tubing as a relaxing alternative.

The Kraai is fed by crystal clear mountain streams that spring from the surrounding towering peaks of the Drakensberg and Lesotho mountains. We put in boats at the Moshesh Ford where three such spruits join to form the Kraai river and travel through remote gorges and farmland until we reach the beautiful national monument of Loch Bridge (built 1861). The river continues on towards Aliwal North where it meets the mighty Orange River. Our paddling and tubing trips vary in length according to your needs and the river flow. You will travel through beautiful gorges, draped with willow trees and will have the opportunity to stop and admire the bird life, caves and bushman paintings.

Picnics will be provided on day trips and there will be time to relax and enjoy a swim in the river at lunchtime. On our multi-day trips you have the option to camp by the river, sleep in a cave or stay in a rondavel. For those who do not want to rough it we can transport you back to one of the local Guest Farms.

We can also arrange for your river rafting trip to be combined with other activities to form a multi-day adventure trail, staying in beautiful farmhouse accommodation along the way. Options include hiking, horse riding, fly-fishing, 4x4 trails, quad trails and mountain biking. We will transport all luggage, leaving you to relax, have fun and enjoy the ride.
