For certified scuba divers, there are a wide range of dive spots around Port Elizabeth. Try Bell Buoy; a large reef which covers almost 5 acres with depths which range from 2 - 20 meters. Large red bait pods are found in the shallower regions, with overhangs, pinnacles and arches.
Masses of sponges, sea squirts, sea fans, soft and hard coral with colorful soft coral, gullies and a rocky bottom with pinnacles and drop-offs. Large, lush gorgonians, a resident conger eel and tame fish and plentiful red bait make this dive special. Ideal conditions prevail with visibility of 8-15m in the Bay from May to September and 8-15m on the Wild side from October to April. Sea temperatures vary between 15-18 degrees Celsius in winter and 19-22 degrees Celsius in summer.
