About Cubata Portuguese Grill House
Cubata may be small and tucked away in the suburb of Sydenham in Port Elizabeth, but just about every foodie in the city has sampled their famous chicken, prawns and ribs. This eatery is set apart in many ways, not least of all its lack of attention to décor and fussiness and its focus on creating authentic Portuguese dishes that are guaranteed to impress.
Huge prawns, succulent chicken and ribs that are sticky and soft are served with generous helpings of rustic chips and crisp bread rolls.
The atmosphere is very casual. The owner usually greets patrons and may even offer to surprise them with the dinner he chooses for them. This is usually a combination of prawns, ribs and chicken, served in huge platters in the centre of the table for everyone to dig in and enjoy.
Cubata is not a licensed restaurant, so patrons should bring their own wine. Soft drinks are offered on an honesty-bar basis.
