EzamaXhosa (meaning "Belonging to the Xhosa People") displays and sells genuine handmade craft found only in the Eastern Cape. When the shop first opened its doors to the public in December 2002, only nine local crafters supplied the shop. Now 145 crafters from even the most remote rural areas of the Eastern Cape are supplying their wares to be sold at EzamaXhosa.
Pottery, beadwork, cushions, table linen, leatherwork, wooden carvings, cutlery, walking sticks, bags, cards and traditional clothing are some of the items on sale. The traditional clothing has proved so popular that more shop space is now needed to cater to the demand. Sponsorship enables EzamaXhosa to sell at reduced prices to achieve their goal of promoting local Xhosa skills and improving lives in rural areas.
