The Cradle consists of a 3 000 hectare nature reserve, set in pristine countryside at the edge of the Magaliesberg in the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site. What is perhaps most remarkable about the region is that, in these still tranquil and picturesque hills, Early Man first evolved.
Visitors interested in palaeo-anthropology may view sites such as Sterkfontein, Swartkrantz, Drimolen, Ploverslake and Motsetse - where fossils dating back as far as 3,2 million years are currently being excavated. The region’s grassland plains and lush wooded valleys exist today in much the same state, as they would have been when the famous “Mrs. Ples” and her descendents first explored them.

In addition, visitors may see some 250 bird species as well as a vast variety of indigenous trees, plants and wildflowers.

THE CRADLE RESTAURANT
The Cradle Restaurant is exquisitely situated overlooking a valley surrounded by high hills, taking full advantage of the magnificent view that Early Man might once have enjoyed. The uncluttered décor ensures that the visitor’s attention is drawn to the view. The restaurant is surrounded on three sides by glass floor-to-ceiling walls that are opened during balmy weather. Spectacular sunsets from this vantage point are a must-see.
CONFERENCES & FUNCTIONS

The Chapel / Conference Room seats 45–120 delegates, depending on the seating styles. This conference room doubles as a wedding chapel for those who wish to tie the knot on the premises.
