6 Day Luxury Rail & Safari is a 6 day / 5 night package tour by Umzantsi Afrika Tours

Day 1: Cape Town to George
Fly to Cape Town, the Mother City of South Africa and we will transfer you to your hotel.(The Capetonian Hotel or similar) for the first night. Spend the evening enjoying the sights at the Waterfront before retiring to your luxurious hotel room. In the morning after a hearty breakfast you are transported to the Cape Town Rail Station to board the beautiful Rovos Train, restored steam engines built in 1911 and rated as "The Most Luxurious Train in the World". Enjoy five-star luxury as some of the most varied scenery imaginable unfolds beyond the windows. Recapture the romance and atmosphere of a bygone era, when privileged travellers experienced the magic and mystery of Africa in a relaxed and elegant fashion. This picturesque 550km, 24 hour trip runs between Cape Town and George. From the Mother City it travels through the Du Toits Kloof tunnel towards Worcester, continuing along the Bree River Valley towards Robertson and then onto Ashton. Here there is a stop to sample the wines of a local wine estate then on towards the coast passing through stations such as Swellendam, South Africa's third oldest town.

Overnight: on board the Rovos Train

Day 2: George to Port Elizabeth
Leaving the coast behind, the train passes near Mossel Bay and stops in George, a quiet inland town, founded in 1811 and named after King George III. From here you may board the famous Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe, a smaller steam engine, which takes you through the forests, over the beautiful Knysna Lagoon and finally stops in the quaint town of Knysna. From here you are taken on a tour through the Tsitsikamma National Park to Port Elizabeth and booked into a beachfront hotel for the night.

Day 3: Port Elizabeth to Shamwari Game Reserve
In the morning you will be transported to Shamwari Game Reserve for a 2 day Safari to enjoy the wild African bushveld and view the 'Big Five'.

Day 4: Shamwari Game Reserve
Today will be spent in the wild viewing the wide range of animals in their natural habitat. Spend the evening under starlit skies listening to the sounds of Africa.

Day 5: Shamwari Game Reserve
Spend another day exploring the Game Reserve.

Day 6: Shamwari Game Reserve to Port Elizabeth Airport
This day, after your morning game drive, you will be transported to the Port Elizabeth Airport for your journey back to Cape Town or if you so choose (at additional cost) taken on a guided tour through Settler Country back to Cape Town.
