5 Day Garden Route Hermanus to Cape Town

A 5 day tour of the Garden Route, departing from Port Elizabeth, visiting the Big Tree in Wilderness, a ferry ride on the Knysna Lagoon, a quick tour of Mossel Bay, visiting Cape Agulhas, Bredasdorp, Hermanus and ends in Cape Town with a short tour through the Cape Winelands.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Port Elizabeth to Wilderness
We depart from Port Elizabeth in the morning and head towards the picturesque region of the Tsitsikamma Forest and Coastal National Park. Our first stop is for refreshments at the scenic Storms River Bridge. After stretching our legs, we continue on a short distance to the Big Tree. A short walk through the shaded serenity of the Tsitsikamma forest will take us to this awe inspiring 800 year old wonder. It is 37m high and 8.9 metres in circumference! We then drive on to the charming garden route town of Knysna, but not before taking time to enjoy the scenic Natures Valley and the Bloukrans River Pass. We also make a stop at the popular coastal town of Plettenberg Bay. Once in Knysna, we take a trip around the beautiful lagoon on a ferry, enjoying lunch onboard. After arriving back on the Knysna quays, its time to journey on. Our route takes us past Sedgefield and the 5 lakes on to The stunning Wilderness area where we spend our first night.

Day 2: Wilderness to Bredasdorp
We head off towards Mossel Bay where we take a quick tour of the historic town, visiting the museum complex and the 'Post Office Tree'. After Mossel Bay, we head for Swellendam, another historic town nestled in a majestic mountain range. After a slow drive through this beautiful area, we turn off towards Cape Agulhas, the southern most tip of Africa. We continue on to our final destination for the day, Bredasdorp, where we spend the night.

Day 3: Bredasdorp to Cape Town
After breakfast we have the option of visiting the 'Shipwreck Museum'. We then head off towards Hermanus, a coastal town set against a magnificent cape mountain range. Hermanus is home to the Southern Right Whale and is one of the best whale and dolphin watching spots in the world. So if it is the right season, we may spot some of these splendid creatures. Next its off to the beautiful city of Cape Town, but before we get there we pass through a few more scenic coastal towns such as Pringle Bay and Strand. We spend the next 2 nights in Cape Town.

Day 4: Cape Town
We wake up to a Cape Town city morning and after breakfast head out for the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point. Our route takes us through the charming Hout Bay, a scenic residential suburb with a picturesque fishing harbour and village. On arrival back in Cape Town we can visit various points of interest, museums, the 2 Ocean Aquarium, the Observatory and of course, weather and budget permitting, we take a ride up the cable cars to the top of Table Mountain. From the table top we will be able to take pleasure in an extensive view of the City of Cape Town, spreading out from the mountain and stretching along the coastline.

Day 5: Cape Town to Cape Town International Airport
We enjoy a leisurely breakfast, load our luggage and head off in the direction of the famous Cape wine lands. We take a short tour, with the opportunity to taste and buy countless wines. As the final day of the tour draws to a close, we head for the airport, just in time for the check in procedure.
