Magaliesberg Classic Country Festival in Magaliesberg

Dubbed The Great Escape, this consummate country festival will celebrate not only the variety of hospitality venues and attractions the Meander offers, but also the gracious pastimes which elegant country life affords - from enjoying classical music and gourmet food (complimented with excellent wines and a variety of other bespoke beverages, of course), to appreciating fashion, décor and art - to country-style picnicking, rambling or participating in more strenuous sporting activities for those who are more actively inclined.

Although anchored by various different events in the run-up to Heritage Day, the date of the Festival, to be held in the grounds of the Bekker High School in Magaliesberg, is Thursday, 24 September 2009. Tickets will be reasonably priced for entrance to the fair on the day, while other attractions will have an added cover charge.

Other headline events to be staged around and during the course of the festival include a 45km mountain-bike race, a cross-country “walk” (a rural version of 702’s Walk the Talk with 1, 3 and 5 km options), as well as an equestrian event (e.g. gymkhana, cross-country race, polo day) or a dressage competition and display by the Kyalami Lippizaners.

An organic market, country picnic area, and exhibition featuring the many elegant venues in and around the Magaliesberg area will make up the rest of the Festival which takes place on Heritage Day itself, comprising a strong cultural aspect to this elegant celebration of country life.
