The Nyl Myl was inaugurated on 9 October 2010 as an open water swimming event hosted by the CVO skool Potgietersrus as a fundraiser for the school.
In the first year 73 swimmers entered the event and last year the number of participates grew to 107.
The event is supported by Swim SA and participants can swim this event to qualify for National events.
The events that are offered are:
Mile: Boys & Girls aged under 13
Mile: Men & Women aged between 14 to 30
Mile: Men & Women aged 31 and over
400m Development swim for all ages
3km: Men & women aged over 11
The organisers are planning to introduce a 5km swim this year.
Moorddrift Farm is probably the oldest dairy farm within South Africa's northern most province, Limpopo. The picturesque family-owned farm will be celebrating its centenary in 2012. Accommodation is available in the form of self catering chalets (Nyl River Bush Camp) on the farm. It is the ideal venue for the swimming event and the water conditions are excellent.
