Kiwi Festival in Haenertsburg

It has been said that the kiwifruit tastes like a succulent green sherbet. For two days the beautiful area of Magoebaskloof, together with the quaint village of Haenertsburg, celebrates this fruit with an annual Kiwi festival.

This unique event provides a fun experience for the whole family. Entertainment over the two days will include guided tours of a kiwifruit farm, with tastings of kiwifruit and kiwifruit related products as well as informative talks on how kiwifruit is grown and their fascinating history (for instance do you know the fruit originally came from China via New Zealand). There will be a cooking competition where the contestants are given a bag of ingredients, including kiwifruit, and they must prepare a dish in 2 hours. This is great fun to watch and tasting of the dishes is encouraged.

There are also tours of a local raspberry farm, with tasting and picking of the delicious fruit. Entertainment includes street musicians, kiddies' entertainment and specials at local restaurants. There will also be a country market where various kiwifruit based delicacies, including delicious pickles and jams, will be on sale. And if there is time, explore the lovely area with its waterfalls, dam and indigenous forests, visit the exquisite Cheerio and Sequoia Gardens, or take a sunset cruise on Ebenezer Dam.

This year is the introduction of a fun Mountain Bike race and 10km Trail Run on 1st April 2012. The Mountain Bike race will be three distances 20km, 10km and 5km so everyone from kids to oldies can take part. A wonderful way to enjoy the beautiful scenery!
