Now in its 18th year, thanks to its massive success and popularity in the past, the Pick n Pay Bosveld Mile is set to attract hundreds of swimmers once again. On 20 March 2016, Bela-Bela (in the Limpopo Province) will be welcoming swimmers and their supportive fans to participate in the fun events of this open-water swim.
There are five different swimming events. These are the 5km, 3km, 1.6km, 800m, and the fun event. The age group categories for the mile are 13 years and under, 14 to 30 years, and 31 years and over. Everyone gets a medal of completion, and the first three winners of each event will get a gold, silver or bronze medal. There are also cash prizes up for grabs, as well as spot prizes for both the competitors and the spectators throughout the event.
The beauty of this part of Limpopo is certainly a major draw card to the Pick n Pay Bosveld Mile. Rolling green lawns that meet the clear blue of the water against the backdrop of the Limpopo horizon makes any time spent in Bela-Bela quite special, particularly when paired with the excitement of this event.
There are clean and neat ablution blocks at the Pick n Pay Bosveld Mile, as well as food and drink stalls. Those who want to light up a fire and enjoy a good old South African braai may also do so, as there are some braai facilities available (although limited, so get there early). The vibe is tangible, and fabulous for the whole family, or for groups of friends looking for a great way to spend a summerís day.
Bela-Bela is situated approximately two hours from Johannesburg and the OR Tambo International Airport.
Everybody is invited to come and swim in the Bosveld Mile.
Venue: Boat Club, Fish Eagle Bay, Bela-Bela
