The Farmhouse

TIME FOR FAMILY AND FRIENDS IN THE FARMHOUSE; ; Originally inhabited by foresters and still infused with history, the comfortable Farmhouse has a restorative and rejuvenating effect on guests. In this peaceful setting, the stresses of daily living are easily forgotten and the desire to reconnect with family and friends is effortlessly realised. The five en-suite bedrooms offer a spacious, private option for a family or group of friends since the Farmhouse is booked out to one group only. The large living and dining area with atmospheric fireplaces and candelabras, a family-sized kitchen and the wrap-around verandah are designed for socializing or relaxing.; ; Built in 1937, the Farmhouse has been lovingly restored to its original splendour with high ceilings, spacious living areas and old family photos on the long passage walls. Here you can step back in time and enjoy conversation around the kitchen table or play boardgames in front of the fireplace. Try out the magical "blue bathroom" where you shower in warm sunlight under an accacia tree, looking out onto the tree ferns and terraced gardens. Relax on comfy chairs on the spacious stoep in hidden, ivy-clad corners and simply absorb the mesmerising views or enjoy a sociable time around the braai fire under a million stars while bushbabies and Wood Owls call into the night.; Practicalities:; ; The homely kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering although breakfast, lunch or dinner can be brought to your kitchen hot and ready to eat (book meals with our chef at least a week in advance).; The Farmhouse is delightfully off-the-grid, and there are a gas fridge and freezer, 6-plate stove (with an oven) and hot-water geysers, as well as solar, candle and gas lighting.; The Farmhouse is serviced daily and linen and towels are provided.; There is a weber-braai and a sociable braai area in the garden. The Forest Lodge Cabins

Stay in one of the secluded Forest Lodge Cabins, three metres up in the canopy of the magical indigenous forest. From your deck you can look out into the towering trees, which host samango monkeys and Narina Trogons. Each cabin in the tree-tops is self-contained with a fully equipped kitchenette and en-suite bathroom. Spend time watching the Black-fronted Bush-Shrike from your private deck or simply relax in front of the fire. Tune in to the sounds of nature all around you as you gaze out onto century-old trees with moss-covered branches and forest streams surrounded by ferns, clivias and orchids.; ; Practicalities:; ; Each Forest Lodge Cabin sleeps between two and four in one double bed and one or two single beds in the loft room, which overlooks the bedroom below.; This cabin is perfect for a couple or family with kids but is not suitable for very young kids because there is a steep ladder into the loft room and there are no balustrades.; The kitchenette is fully equipped for self-catering although breakfast, lunch or dinner can be brought to your kitchen hot and ready to eat (book meals with our chef at least a week in advance).; We are delightfully off the grid but you lack for nothing: there is a gas fridge and freezer, 4-plate stove with an oven and hot-water geysers, as well as solar, candle and gas lighting.; The Cabins are serviced daily.; There is a weber-braai and a braai area with Black Wattle firewood.;

Thora Boloka Cottage

TRANQUIL TIME AT THORA BOLOKA; ; This organic, earthy cottage is dramatically encircled by nature. There is a lovely mix of stone and wood with ochre and terracotta walls, lizard-lights and African baskets. Thora Boloka is a tranquil, private venue with a spacious living area. A fireplace and candelabra set the atmosphere indoors while the patio, with a hammock for lazy summer days, has infinite, calming views. The open-plan living area is spacious and sociable and the kitchen is well kitted-out for family feasts. An outdoor shower overlooks the valley while an innovative indoor shower with wooden latte doors and handmade washbasins captures the organic atmosphere.; ; Thora Boloka is crafted with stone from the farm and painted the colour of the earth it stands on. Lintls are hewn from cedar trees knocked down in the 2000 floods and doorframes are twisted gumtree branches as they are in nature. The double volume living area is light and airy in summer but cosy with the central fireplace on winter days. The most incredible views call you to every window and the patio around the cottage draws you outside to marvel at the mountains all around. At night the distant lights of Magopane and Polokwane merge with the twinkling stars above. From the patio or outdoor braai area, you may see Vereaux’s Eagles, klipspringers or baboons on the koppie and hear jackals calling at night.     Frequently Asked Questions

    Why do I have to pay a deposit?

    This is a sign of good faith. Properties hold rooms for you, which they could sell to someone else, so if you don't turn up, they lose revenue. By paying a deposit of 50% (industry standard) you show the property that you are intending to arrive and they will accordingly turn others away.

    Can I pay the deposit at month end?

    That depends on the property. Many have real time booking calendars, allowing people to book instantly online. If that's the case, bookings are first-come-first-book, and no rooms will be held provisionally unless specifically arranged. Send a request and ask for a specific payment date and they'll get back to you.

    What is 3D Secure?

    This is a security layer which checks that the person making the payment is the authorised cardholder by way of a one-time pin delivered by SMS or a secret code, ensuring the safety of your card.

    3D secure is a legislated prerequisite for all online purchases in South Africa.
