Less than 90 minutes’ drive from the King Shaka International Airport in Durban is the tranquil beach resort of Manaba, which lies just north of Margate in KwaZulu-Natal. This beach is characterised by its vast sandy stretches and the irresistible waters of the Indian Ocean, which are considerably warmer than the Atlantic on the west coast.

Visitors to Manaba can enjoy all of the conveniences of the town; including restaurants, shops and a number of entertainment centres to keep all the members of the family busy. Those who prefer to stay in the cool waters on a sweltering summer’s day can take their pick of watersports; ranging from surfing the waves, kitesurfing or windsurfing when there is a bit of a breeze, or canoeing and paddling. Alternatively, simply frolic in the waves, or soak up the sun on the shore. The fishing piers lure keen anglers year after year.

Adventurers will enjoy the white water rafting expeditions on the nearby Umzimkulu River, while those looking for something more tranquil may prefer the barge cruises.
