Claridge House is a highly recommended property providing self catering in Clarens for up to 6 guests visiting the Thabo Mofutsanyana region.

About Claridge House

Set at the foot of the Maluti Mountains in the unspoilt valley of Clarens just three hours’ drive from Johannesburg, Claridge House offers you a luxurious private escape from city life. Located alongside the Klein Caledon River on four hectares of unspoilt farmland, each room in this exclusive self-catering accommodation gives you uninterrupted views of the valley and mountains beyond.

The house features three bedrooms and sleeps a maximum of six adults, together with two children in the mezzanine level upstairs. With touches like underfloor heating, percale linen, DSTV and electric blankets and a cleaning service, Claridge House gives you the luxury of a boutique hotel while allowing you to relax in total privacy.

Self Catering Accommodation

The large open plan lounge and dining room is the central focus of Claridge House, and its antique wooden finishes and soft white sofas are the perfect place in which to relax with your family and friends. The room’s double volume design makes it light and bright, and its large wooden fireplace and underfloor heating make it cosy during the crisp Free State winters.

For entertainment, choose from the TV (with DSTV), DVD player or CD player, or simply admire the sweeping mountains through the large glass doors leading onto the patio outside. Adjoining the lounge is the dining area, with a large eight-seater wooden dining table that is perfect for lazy dinners lasting late into the night.

Fresh and healthy food is part and parcel of the Claridge House experience, and you’ll have full access to the property’s organic vegetable patch. Facilities include a double gas stove top, large oven, microwave, toaster, coffee machine and large double fridge freezer.

Main bedroom & ensuite
The large en-suite main bedroom is on the ground floor and, though it contains double glass doors opening onto the patio outside, you don’t have to move from your bed to appreciate the tranquil Clarens valley setting outside. The room features an extra length king-sized bed with percale linen for maximum comfort while you sleep, and an antique dressing table and cupboards complete the room’s comforting feel.

In winter, you’ll be able to keep warm with an electric blanket as well as the double-sided fireplace, a unique design feature in that it forms the back of the lounge fireplace. The en-suite bathroom is luxuriously appointed with simple, rustic fittings, and features a bath, shower, heated towel rails – and, of course, those views!

The Blue Room
This large double bedroom upstairs contains an extra-length, king-sized bed with percale linen. Use the electric blanket for cold winter nights, or the air conditioner for hot summer evenings. No matter what the season, you’ll awaken in the morning to the view of sheep being herded right outside your window.

The Chinese Room
Featuring two single beds that can also be pushed together, this upstairs bedroom is ideal for both couples and sharing singles. The Chinese Rooms contains luxurious percale linen and electric blankets for winter. The room is light and bright, and gives you a picture-perfect view of Mount Horeb right from your bed.

Guest Bathrooms
The downstairs guest bathroom services the Blue and Chinese rooms, and contains a shower, heated towel rails and marble counter tops to ensure the ultimate in comfort for your stay.

The mezzanine level overlooks the lounge and dining room below, and has whitewashed wooden floors for an airy country feel. The level contains two small antique beds that are ideal for children (please note that children must be over 10 years old), as well as a study nook under the slant of the room with an antique wooden desk.

Leading off from the open-plan lounge, dining room and kitchen, the Claridge House patio is the ideal place from which to breathe in the clean Free State air and admire the uninterrupted views of the Maluti Mountains and Lesotho beyond. The patio contains a covered built-in braai and adjoining wooden bar table that seats 16 people, making it the perfect location for an afternoon braai or outside meal on a warm summer evening.

The stylish outside lounge furniture seats eight people, with two seats converting into a day bed for the perfect lazy afternoon nap. At the far end of the patio is a large double outdoor hot shower that gives you the same amazing views – just don’t forget to hang your towel up so your other guests know that the shower is being used!
